Core 3: Founding Fathers

Devotional – Leading

Opening

  • Today we learned about the Founding Fathers who were all Godly men of high moral character!
  • Now, let’s see what the bible says to us about being great leaders and setting a Godly example!
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech,in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Devotional

Big picture You may think (or others may think) that you are too young to serve God, but instead he calls you to set the example! Pray that the Holy Spirit will work in your heart to be an example for others.

  • Q: Does anyone think they are too young to be a leader? (Give past example in your life, if no children responses.)
  • The Bible says, you are a leader! You may think you’re too young to be a leader, but you’re not too young!
  • You may think (or others may think) you’re too young to serve God, but instead He calls you to set the example for others!
  • Ask God to show you ways to give you courage, so that you may be set apart for His service.
  • To be “set apart” means to be devoted to God, to be different from non-believers.
  • As a Godly Leader, you should be different in the following ways:
    • In your speech. (We learned last time about controlling our tongues in anger)
    • n the way you act towards others. (golden rule)
    • How you love others. (putting other’s first)
    • In how your truth comes only from Jesus. (where does your truth come from?)
    • In your purity of heart and body. (being holy)
  • Q: But it is hard to be different isn’t it? Jesus says few choose the narrow road, the Leaders’ road.
  • God wants to give you courage to be a Godly leader. All you need do is ask Him, Listen, and Obey.
  • The Founding Fathers were great leaders and included men of great faith. Yet, they were just like you as boys.
  • God doesn’t ask you to be Founding Fathers. He asks you to be His examples where He plants you.
  • Remember! You are a leader. People & God are watching what you do and say.

Memory Verse #2

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Topical Questions

  1. How can you be a leader to others by what you say? Or what you do?

  2. Do you think the Founding Fathers knew they were going to grow up to be Founding Fathers?

  3. Can you be a leader, without being different?

  4. When were you or one of your friends a leader?

Closing Prayer

Ask God to give these boys courage to be a Godly example. That they would be bold in asking for courage (knocking and door opened) to be different in a world that will not cheer them on to be Godly leaders but will fight against them. But, we know Jesus’ Victory has already been won so do not fear.
