Advancement Specialist
Trail Life includes a robust system of structured advancement for boys at all program levels. By moving through this advancement system, the boys are guided through a variety of useful experiences.
Our Advancement Team is charged with tracking the process of the boys, assisting program decision-makers in designing events to complete advancement steps, facilitating boards of review, and purchasing and presenting awards.
An Advancement Specialist may be involved with particular levels or patrols, or serve generally. Advancement record keeping will be primary task of the specialist, with assistance on other advancement items as needs and abilities dictate.
Qualifications
Core Duties
- With other members of the advancement team, work to maintain our central advancement records, including that in Trail Life Connect.
- Assist with award ceremonies.
- Participate as needed in boards of review.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain familiarity with the programmatic activities of any supported unit.
- Complete Peak 1 and Peak 2 trainings during first year of service.
Timing of Duties
- An Advancement Specialist will typically find it most convenient to interact with other leaders and youth at the weekly meetings; however, the role can be accomplished without being present at all parts of all meetings.
- An Advancement Specialist may need to reconcile records or perform other tasks outside of meetings.
- Attendance at campouts and activities is not required, but may inform a practical understanding of the ministry's operations.
