About Position Types
On this site, we use four position types when describing our volunteer positions:
- Committee
- Trail Guide
- Specialist
- Team Member
We do this for convenience, as we observe that positions have many things in common.
Committee
Committee members have principal responsibility for an area or areas of the troop’s operations. These members may have supervisory responsibilities of other volunteers, or may be directly responsible for the operations. They participate in the communication and consensus building process of being part of the committee, under the overall direction of the Committee Chair.
Trail Guide
Trail Guides are the primary youth-contact leaders within the Troop. They collectively are responsible for instruction, mentoring, advising, and supervising the activities of the boys within the Troop. The Troopmaster leads the team of Trail Guides.
Specialists
Specialists are operational volunteers with more a defined portfolio of responsibilities than a committee member. There may be a team of specialists handling a particular function, or just a single one in an area where they are particularly able to contribute.
Team Member
Team Member roles are the most basic volunteer roles in the troop. These positions have no individual responsibilities, but are part of a team (some would call it a volunteer committee) that is collectively charged to accomplish one or more tasks for the troop.
