Elective 9: Tracking

Devotional – God’s Ownership

Opening

  • It was fun learning to track animals. Now, let’s see what the bible says about animals.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Psalm 24:1 The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.

Devotional

Big picture God owns everything.

  • Q: What is your favorite animal? And why?
  • Q: Did you ever stop and wonder why God made animals? (Because God said it was good)
  • We all know God created everything. But God didn’t just create everything and then leave to go back into heaven. No! He controls everything. He makes everything in the world run smoothly.
  • The teaching verse tells us that God owns everything. And when you own something you take care of it, right? You make sure everything works like you want it to work, right? God does the same thing.
  • When you own something, you control it, just like God does with the entire universe. He controls everything in it. Nothing escapes His command and control. God is very large and in charge!
  • Many people try to say God is just an idea or there is no God. Or He is far away and doesn’t care.
  • But, the Bible, God’s word, tells us that is false. God is real, He is everywhere, and He cares about everything, even animals, because He owns everything.
  • Animals are so interesting and so diverse (which means many kinds). There is a lot we can learn from animals, and we are still learning about them, finding new animals, and new things about them. And God made them all.
  • Genesis 1:25 says, “God made the wild animals…and all the creatures...according to their kinds.”
  • Just think about all the millions of animals, bugs, birds, fishes, etc. God made each one according to its kind.
  • Then Genesis says something very important. “And, God saw that it was good.” Meaning, God made animals because it was good, and it pleased Him to make them.
  • So, animals are important because God says they are important to Him. And so, they should be important to us, too, which is why we are learning how to track them.

Memory Verse #1

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Topical Questions

  1. How have you seen God provide for the animals he created?

  2. Is following Jesus somewhat like tracking God?
We find God by first following (tracking) the signs of Jesus in our lives. Then, if we have done a good job of following, Jesus leads us directly to God our Heavenly Father.

  3. What something about God’s creation that you’ve learned from observing animals?

Closing Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, You are Holy and worthy of all praise. We thank you for making us and making all things. We know you own the earth and everything in it. We thank you for giving us animals to help us learn and grown. And we thank you for this incredibly interesting world including animals that you put here. We cannot imagine what earth would be like without animals. We love you, Lord. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen!
