Core 4: Camping & Hiking

Devotional – Faith

Opening:

  • Today we learned some camping skills that builds trust in ourselves that we can survive in the woods.
  • Now let’s see what the bible says we should really be putting our faith and trust in, every day.
  • Read, or someone read Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

2 Corinthians 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Devotional

Big picture God wants us to grow our faith in Him.

  • Q: Do you know someone who is legally blind? How do they get around?
  • Today we learned how to hike & camp, but Imagine hiking or camping being blind.
  • Hiking blind, we would likely stumble & fall, right, maybe even get hurt, without a rescuer to guide us?
  • But if we were blind, we still must trust the rescuer, or the rescuer can’t save us, right? We aren’t going anywhere with someone we don’t trust, right? Stranger-Danger!
  • So, the poor Blind Hiker who sees everyone as Stranger-Danger is stuck forever.
  • Well… God is no Danger to us! Because He loves us so much.
  • God loves us so much He even sent His Son, Jesus, to die on a cross for our sins.
  • And…God is no Stranger to us! In fact, God wants us to know Him more and more.
  • Q: What are some ways to know God more? (e.g. reading bible)
  • So, God wants us to grow our faith in Him. So, we are not STUCK like the Blind Hiker.
  • Q: What does it mean to “grow” your faith?
  • “Growing our faith” means trusting God more and more. Trusting completely in God.
  • “Growing our faith” also means knowing God more and more. He wants us to know Him.
  • Don’t be like a blind hiker! Trust God to save you, even when you cannot see Him!

Memory Verse #1

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Topical Questions

  1. If you don’t know God, will He save you?

  2. You can’t see God. So, how do you know He is there?

  3. Why does God want you to know him more and more?

Closing Prayer

Encourage them to grow in their faith by learning more about God daily, by reading their bible, prayer, and worship
