Core 2: Science in Weather

Devotional - Weather

Opening

  • We learned a lot today about the science of weather, now let’s see what God has to say about weather.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Leviticus 26:3&4 If you follow my decrees, and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.

Devotional

Big picture Like the weather, we all have seasonal ups & downs, but God remains the same and in total control.

  • Q: Does God tell us our lives will always go smoothly? (No, He says we will struggle sometimes).
  • Q: Same with weather. Does the weather always cooperate with us? Tell us about when it did or didn’t.
  • We are going to do something different today in our devotional time. We are going to read a few bible verses and then talk about them. These verses are about God and about the weather.
  • I want you to listen carefully as we read these verses. Pay attention. So, we can talk about them.
  • The first verse is Genesis 8:22. We will read it twice. Read 2X, Slowly, with emphasis
  • Gen 8:22 Discuss:
    • Does anyone have questions? (What did this verse say to any of the boys?)
    • Background: This verse is God speaking to all mankind right after Noah’s flood.
    • God says He will never destroy the earth again like the flood.
    • This verse should comfort us about God’s plan. Despite all these doomsday pedictions in the news such as Global Warming, God will never destroy the earth from storms and weather. We may have some tough times ahead, but God will never completely destroy the earth until the end times spoken of in Revelations.
    • Consistency: As long as the earth endures there will be summer and winter, cold and heat, day and night.
    • The earth will continue to consistently follow its seasons and patterns as we know it.
    • We can trust God will take care of us.
  • The next verse is Hebrews 13:8 Read it Slowly 2X.
  • Heb 13:8 Discuss:
    • This verse confirms to us that God is the God of consistency. We may go through “seasons” of change in life. Even the earth may change, BUT GOD remains the same forever.
    • Take comfort in this fact. Praise God for His strength and mighty power!

Memory Verse #3

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X. Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Topical Questions

  1. In Genesis, God created the earth and everything in it. Is it any wonder that God knows the weather?

  2. If we know so much about the weather, why are weather forecasts often wrong?

  3. Think about how perfect the earth is. Not too hot, not too cold, not too stormy. Are you thankful?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, O most high, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! When we consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers we stand in awe. For You made the heavens and the earth. Yet, You do not stand far off and hide Yourself from us. Thank You for loving us so much that You provide a wonderful world for us to live in. In Your Son Jesus Christ’s name, we give You praise. Amen!
