Devotional – True Home
Opening
- Today we learned about our state, but where does the Bible say our true home is located?
- Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down
Philippians 3:20: But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Devotional
Big picture Heaven is our true home.
- Q: Does anyone know their home address? (take a few answers from kids).
- Q: We learned today that our state is great and there are many wonderful things to see and do in it, but does anyone know where all Christian’s real home is? It’s not your state, or your town, or even the street where you live.
- Q: Where do Christian’s go when they die? To heaven, right?
- In the teaching verse God tells us our true home, our forever home, is in heaven not here on earth.
- That seems kind of strange, doesn’t it? Heaven is our real home. You may be thinking I have never even seen heaven, how can it be my home?
- It’s true you have not seen heaven yet, but you will someday. In the teaching verse God is telling you that you will be with Him forever in heaven someday soon and you are only here on earth for a very short time compared to living with Him in heaven for eternity, forever and ever. That’s why it’s home.
- Don’t be afraid. When you get to heaven, you will never want to come back to earth again because heaven is sooooo wonderful. The Bible tells us so. Heaven is beyond your most wonderful imagination.
- The teaching verse also says that Jesus is there in heaven, and we should be waiting EAGERLY here on earth now for Him to come get us and take us to heaven to live with Him. Our true home!
- Again, don’t be afraid of Jesus taking you to heaven because your family will be there too and it will be AMAZING!!!!
- But here is the sad part. If you or one of your family members doesn’t know Jesus, you and they will NEVER be allowed into heaven with Jesus. Because, anyone who doesn’t believe in Jesus must live in hell forever, not heaven. Separated from Jesus, separated from your family, forever and ever.
- That is why we are so happy that each of you believes in Jesus so you will all be with Him in heaven! Yay! And why you should tell everyone where your true home is in heaven and that they should believe in Jesus so they can come live with you and Jesus there.

Closing Prayer
Dear Lord, we thank You for creating a room for us in heaven, our forever home! Thank you for wanting us to come live with You there. You tell us that we will live in a huge, beautiful mansion in heaven with many rooms and one of those rooms You built just for us. We cannot wait to get to heaven. We know it is strange to be living here but wanting to be in heaven, but it is the truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
