Devotional – Enjoyment
Opening
- We learned today hobbies can be fun, now let’s see what the bible says about finding enjoyment in life.
- Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down
Ecclesiastes 2:24 There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink, and to find enjoyment in his work. I also perceived that this ability to find enjoyment comes from God.
Devotional
Big picture When we seek to honor God, we will find peace and enjoyment, while those who seek sin will struggle
- Q: Did you know God wants you to have fun? It’s true, God created fun, just like He created all things.
- Q: Speaking of fun, what are some fun things you boys like to do? (or share yours)
- The Teaching verse tells us God wants us to find enjoyment in life. Think about it. God is commanding you to find fun things to do!
- And, hobbies are one of the most enjoyable things to do in life, that’s one of the reasons we’re learning about them. Finding enjoyment in life is important, as important as almost anything in life.
- Q: But, do you know what’s more important than having fun? It’s pleasing God.
- We should always honor God, even when you are having fun, or in whatever you are doing.
- Because, here’s the point of today’s devotional: when we seek to honor God, we will find true peace and enjoyment, while those who seek sin will struggle. Repeat
- Now let’s dive deeper into what this truth is telling us.
- First: We need to seek God. God doesn’t find us, rather, we need to include God in whatever we do.
- Seeking God takes effort. That means intentionally bringing God into whatever you are doing.
- Fortunately, it’s simple to bring God along with you, anytime. You just must remember to do it.
- You can bring God into your hobbies or any activity you do by praying about them (before, during, or after) or singing praise songs out loud or just to yourself while you go about your business.
- Q: What other ways can you bring God along?
Think about Him, talk about Him, say bible verses
- Second: If you seek God in whatever you do, then you will also find peace and enjoyment.
- God will bless your effort to seek Him by giving you abundant, lasting peace and enjoyment in life.
- Finally: If you seek sin, then you will struggle in life. You will find no peace and enjoyment in sin.
- Seeking sin means choosing to do what God does not want you to do. You have a choice.
- So have fun! Learn a fun hobby. But, choose to seek God in all that you do because it will go well with you if you do, and your life will be miserable if you choose to seek sin instead.

Matthew 22:37-39 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Closing Prayer
Dear Father God, this life is filled with so many fun things to do, like hobbies. You are the perfect Father. Thank you for loving us so much that You provided such a wonderful world. You know what is best for us. You know us better than we know ourselves. Help these boys to find hobbies they can enjoy for life. Help them to see Your goodness and love. In Your Son Jesus Christ’s name, we pray. Amen!
