Core 1: Know Your Environment

Devotional – Creation

Opening

  • Today we learned a lot about God’s creation, now let’s see what the Bible says about created things.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Genesis 1:24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.

Devotional

Big picture God created all things and provides for us because He loves us.

  • Q: Do any of you have any pets? If so, what pets do you have?
  • Q: Do any of you help take care of your pets? How do you help care for them?
  • Just like we take care of our pets, God takes care of us.
  • Q: Why do you think God takes care of us? (Because He created us and loves us).
  • God created all things and provides for us because He loves us. God loves everyone He created.
  • You love your pet, right? But God loves you so much more, He sent His son Jesus to die for you.
  • God’s love for you is beyond your imagination. So much so, once you believe in Jesus, there is nothing you can do to separate yourself from His love for you. Now, that’s A LOT of love!
  • And, God created all things. The Bible verse tells us that. God spoke and all living creatures were created.
  • There was a time when there were no living creatures. Then, God spoke, and they were created.
  • People who don’t know Jesus think everything began from nothing. But that doesn’t make sense, and the Bible tells us the truth, that all things were created by God.
  • A little later in Genesis, God creates Adam and Eve, and here we are today.
  • Everything in this world we studied today: plants, animals, the earth, air, water, fire...EVERYTHING! God created.
  • You may wonder why God created some animals, like mosquitoes. But everything in creation has a purpose. We may not see their purpose at first, but everything fits together perfectly in God's plan. (E.g. mosquitos are a primary food source for bats, and bats are cool!).
  • Think about all the amazing animals God has created!
  • Q: What’s your favorite animal? Why? (tell kids yours and why?)
  • Think about how boring this world would be without animals in it (just us and plants).
  • Seeing all these amazing animals we can see why God said His creation “was good!”

Memory Verse #1

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.

Topical Questions

  1. Did God create Adam and Eve before He created animals or after them?

  2. Did God create plants before animals or after them?

  3. John 3:16 tells us how much God loves us. Does anyone know that verse (have them say it)?

If we truly believe in Jesus, God will never leave us or forsake us, no matter what.

Closing Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for creating all this amazing world we live in. We may not understand everything about Your creation, and probably never will, but we know that You created it all, and that You provide for us because You love us. When we consider the works of Your hands, all the heavens above and the earth below, we are just amazed and so thankful! In Jesus’s name we pray. Amen!
