- Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down
Matthew 25:14-30 Read - The Parable of the Talents
Devotional
Big picture Don’t be wasteful or lazy with all that God has given you, use them well.
- Q: Do any of you have any special talents or abilities?
- list some of yours for ideas to boys
- Q: Where do you think you got that talent from? Who gave you that talent?
- Q: Or do you think you had everything to do with creating your talent or skill?
- it’s all about you
- Q: Have you ever used a God-given talent to help someone or used it in a way that God got the glory?
- The Parable of the Talents shows us that God gave us all our talents and skills. And everything in the world belongs to God, because He made everything.
- The Parable says you should not be wasteful or lazy with all that God has given you. Each one of you boys has at least one special talent, whether you know it yet or not. You truly do. I bet your parents know at least one talent you have. That might be a subject worth discussing with them.
- And, God has given you tons of stuff. But all that stuff belongs to Him, not you. Because who made all the stuff you have? Right! God did! So, all your stuff and all your talents all belong to Him.
- God doesn’t want to take your talent and He doesn’t want the stuff back He gave you. He doesn’t need it. What God wants is for you to be a good STEWARD of all the things that He has given you.
- Like in the Parable, who did God get mad at in the end? The guy that wasted his God-given Talent.
- Who in the Parable was God pleased with? The two guys who used their God-given Talents well.
- We need to act like the two guys in the Parable. We need to use our talents and belongings God has given us to glorify Him. That is using your talents wisely and well.
- Jesus tells His disciples this Parable near the end of His life on earth. Before He was crucified, Jesus is trying to give them as much truth as He can about God’s coming Kingdom. This Parable shows us what is important to God also needs be important to us.
- So, use your God-given talents and belongings wisely and well. Don’t be wasteful or lazy with what you have. God gave them to you for a reason. You will be judged someday, just like the Parable guys, on what you chose to do with God’s resources. Be a good Steward for God!
