Devotional – Living Water
Opening
- Water is refreshing, but even more refreshing is Jesus’s living water, let’s learn what that is.
- Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down
Matthew 25:14-30 But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.
Devotional
Big picture Water satisfies our body, but Jesus satisfies our soul.
- Q: We all have a favorite beverage, what is your favorite beverage to drink?
- Nothing satisfies our thirst like water. In fact, our bodies are mostly water (~60%).
- And the earth is almost all water (71%). So, water is important to all life and thus to God.
- We learned we can drown in water, even water only a couple of inches deep, so we must be safe around water. But, did you know you can also die from a lack of water?
- Water is so important. Water is how God made our planet Earth different from every other planet.
- In Genesis, God separated the waters on the second day of creation and on the third day he gathered all the water together and land together to make Earth what it is today: water, land and sky.
- And, God used the great flood in Genesis, to wipe all His creation away, and to restart again with Noah.
- God also separated the sea to allow His chosen people, the Jews, to escape Egypt in the Exodus.
- And we are baptized in water as a public sign of our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
- Water is talked about over and over and over again in the Bible. But no where more important than in the teaching verse John 4:14 where Jesus says He gives us living water so that we will never thirst again.
- Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit not about plain old water. Liquid water can temporarily satisfy our thirstiness, but Jesus’s spiritual water, will keep our soul alive forever when we die and go to heaven.
- Jesus is saying that liquid water satisfies our body, but He satisfies our soul, so that we can live eternally with Him in heaven.
- In John 7:38, Jesus also said, “Whoever believes in me, streams of living water will flow from within him.” Jesus recognizes how important water is to all life. But He says there is living water from Him that is even more important. And that living water is the Holy Spirit.
- We receive the Holy Spirit within us when we believe Jesus is our Lord and Savior.
- We hope all of you have living water flowing from within you. If you believe in Jesus, you do!

Closing Prayer
Jesus, we thank You for giving us Your living water, the Holy Spirit. We believe in You, Jesus. We believe You are our Lord and our Savior. So, we ask plainly for Your living water, today and every day. Fill us with the Holy Spirit, so much so, that we overflow with Your living water. Help these boys to not dam up their living water, but to let it overflow to others who need it. In Jesus Christ’s name we pray. Amen!
